Test report: Ortovox Fleece Grid Hoody

The all-round: the Merino Fleece Grid by Ortovox promises a lot: light, flexible, warm, but not too warm. Sport Conrad employee Lisa was looking for just such an all-rounder and tested the Fleece Grid Hoody Jacket by Ortovox for us.

First Impression

At first sight, the jacket actually makes a very light impression. The material feels very soft and pleasant on the skin, which is probably due to the merino wool content. Visually, the Fleece Grid Hoody Jacket is definitely an eye-catcher. Friends and acquaintances have often addressed me to this beautiful jacket. So I could well imagine wearing the jacket in my spare time or on the way to work.

First thing I noticed the zipper. It’s very small and doesn’t seem very high quality at first. But now, in the aftermath of the test, this can’t be confirmed. The material is very well made and I couldn’t find any weaknesses.  In the two chest pockets is enough space for a cell phone and a small snack. Even larger mobile phones can easily find space in the second (slightly larger) chest pocket.

Test

During the test phase I wore the jacket for all sports activities. Be it during my after work jogging, the fast ascent of the Jochberg or the mountain bike tour. I was very satisfied with the wearing comfort of the Fleece Grid Hoody Jacket in all activities. The Ortovox Jacket has a super stretch capacity, which is especially advantageous during longer sports sessions, as it never wears out or loses its shape. However, it makes sense to order the jacket one size larger, as it is quite small and fits very tight. Particularly noteworthy is the functionality. In no second I had to freeze with this jacket. But even during jogging I didn’t have the feeling of sweating excessively. Here the jacket offers every comfort I could wish for my sports units. For me personally, it was a bit disconcerting to carry the phone at chest level. Especially on longer tours I felt it here as disturbing. Therefore I prefer the classic jacket pockets. The jacket should be washed with a wool detergent with a low rotation speed. That way you get something out of it longer.  If you’re still not sure about washing the jacket, Ortovox has washing instructions for their Merino products.

Resume

Basically, the Fleece Grid Hoody Jacket from Ortovox makes a very high-quality impression. The jacket is comfortable, functional and also looks good. Especially on mountain tours it becomes a faithful companion. However, it can be used versatile without further ado. In my opinion, the origin of the merino wool and the ecological footprint of a company plays a major role. Here Ortovox works in a very environmentally friendly and transparent way. With the Ortovox Wool Promise, Ortovox has created its own wool standard. This makes the company a role model for many others and that also flows for me into the evaluation of a product. The only thing I found disturbing was the chest pocket. Otherwise, I was consistently satisfied with the Ortovox Fleece Grid Hoody Jacket and its versatility.
