BUY RUNNING ACCESSORIES ONLINE AT SPORT CONRAD

Every runner is as individual as the weather. And just as unique are the running accessories each runner chooses. Depending on performance and level, you decide which accessories to buy. Is it a pulse watch for the beginner aiming for a more active lifestyle, or is it a carbon trail running pole to achieve top results at the next UTMB? There are no limits to the choice of accessories, because every run is different – and so is the choice of equipment.

Before you tackle your next sporting goal, ask yourself what matters to you in order to achieve it and what you need for it. Just like with running apparel, pay attention to details when it comes to running equipment: What material is the gear made of?

Is it quick-drying or breathable (clothing)? What functions does it have and how heavy is it? These are all important questions, but here comes the most important one: What kind of running accessories are out there, and which ones do you need? To help you answer this question, we’ve put together an overview.

Running Backpack – Top Performance for Your Run

Who doesn’t know the situation where you wish you hadn’t dressed too warmly because the weather forecast predicted changeable conditions, but the weather turns out to be beautiful?

To avoid this situation, a running backpack is just the right thing.

Keys rattling in your pocket, soft flasks, bars and gels, and change of clothes can be easily stored in a running backpack. Poles and other gear like ice axes and helmets can usually be attached externally – just one of many reasons why it's indispensable for your next training or run. They start with a volume of 2 liters and go up to 23 liters.

Aside from storage space, the material also plays an important role. They are usually made from lightweight, breathable mesh fabric that wicks heat away from the body. To ensure the running backpack fits optimally and doesn’t chafe under the arms, it’s important that it fits snugly and can be tightened with the drawcord if needed.

At first glance, it all sounds good – but which running backpack is the right one for me? Do I just need one for training, an all-rounder for every situation, or one for when it really matters – for racing?

With brands like Adidas Terrex, Arch Max, Black Diamond, Deuter, Dynafit, NNormal, ON, Salomon and Ultimate Direction, you’ll find the right running backpack for you at Sport Conrad.

Hydration Belts & Hip Bags – Less is More

If you're not a fan of running backpacks and want more freedom, you can also go for a hydration belt or a hip bag. With a hip bag, you’ll always have your phone, keys, bars, and a 500ml soft flask with you while running.

Hip bags from Arch Max, Dynafit, NNormal, Salomon and Ultimate Direction can be found here.

Soft Flasks & Hydration Systems – Stay Hydrated

Soft flasks and hydration systems are essential accessories. That’s why they’re part of the mandatory gear for races. Only those who stay well hydrated can perform at their best – because the next aid station might still be far away, and who knows when the next stream will appear.

What you drink from is up to you. We’ll show you the available options:

Soft Flasks: Every manufacturer of running backpacks also offers matching soft flasks with their packs. Usually, two 500ml bottles are included. The advantage is that you can always keep an eye on your water level while carrying less weight. Small downside: if you drink a lot, 1 liter (2x500ml) might not be enough.

Hydration Systems: These are hydration bladders with an attached drinking tube. The advantage is that compared to soft flasks, they allow you to carry more water and are compatible with most hiking and running backpacks. However, the extra weight and the sloshing of the bladder, which can disrupt your running rhythm, may be considered disadvantages.

Running Poles – Your Trusted Support on Steep Ascents

The gamechanger for every trail runner is the running pole. These support you on the uphills by allowing you to use powerful arm thrusts, reducing the load on your legs. On downhills, they provide the necessary stability, especially in muddy conditions. Trail running puts a lot of strain on your body – so it’s all the better when you can relieve it a little.

Some may now wonder what makes a running pole so special compared to a trekking pole? It’s simple – the weight! Running poles are now made so light that you can hardly believe what you're holding in your hand. We’re already talking about a weight class starting at around 140 grams per pole and up.

Another factor to consider when choosing a trail running pole is its construction. There are the following types:

Fixed Length

As the name suggests, the poles have a fixed length, meaning they cannot be collapsed.

Telescopic

The adjustment is typically made by rotating or clamping the segments. This allows the pole length to be adapted to the body size and terrain conditions.

Telescopic & Foldable

Here, the poles can be extended or shortened in a telescopic manner and folded together for packing.

Fixed Length & Foldable

Here, they are usually three-piece and follow the same folding principle as an avalanche probe. This design is more common among trail runners, as they can be folded into a small size and easily attached to a running backpack or stored in a sheath.

The pole length you need can be found in our Pole Length Guide. For more information on running poles, click here.

Sunglasses – Stay Focused on the Trails, Defy the Sun, Wind, and Annoying Insects

The running sunglasses are your all-purpose weapon for the next run – no more excuses from now on! Sunglasses with large lenses, wherever you look. More and more runners are choosing to wear running sunglasses instead of regular sunglasses during their athletic activities. While many may shake their heads at the bold design, there is a significant purpose and benefit behind it. We explain this here: What is the difference compared to regular sunglasses?

1. Fit & Design: Thanks to the lightweight material and sporty design, you can hardly feel the glasses while running. The large lenses also provide excellent all-around visibility. Non-slip nose pads and temple tips ensure a perfect fit. And as a stylish extra, the lenses are also mirrored.

2. Protection & Function: Glasses are available with special lenses that reduce UV rays (UV protection), enhance contrasts (e.g., Oakley's Prizm lenses or 100%'s Hiper Mirror lenses), and are photochromic, allowing you to see every obstacle in all lighting conditions. To prevent fogging, most lenses are equipped with air vents (ventilation system).

3. Durability: The lenses are often more robust and resistant to impact and scratches than regular sunglasses.

Overall, running sunglasses focus on fit, protection, and comfort.

Running Lights & Headlamps – Turn Night into Day

Running in the dark may not be for everyone – but if you enjoy it, you can't do without the right equipment. If you prefer the darkness, you need a beam of light to show you the way and avoid falls and injuries. This light beam is provided by the headlamps from Black Diamond, Petzl, and Silva.

But what should you consider when buying a headlamp?

The first question you should ask yourself is: What do you need the headlamp for?

Do you need it for a short walk with your dog, a short jog, a long run, or a multi-day tour? Once you know that, you can move on to the next question.

The second question is, how bright should the headlamp be?

Headlamps with fewer lumens have a shorter beam distance (e.g., the PETZL E + LITE 40 lumens has a beam distance of 15m), while headlamps with more lumens have a greater range (e.g., the PETZL SWIFT RL 1100 lumens at full power reaches 155m).

This sounds good, but you need to keep in mind that the greater the visibility, the more power is required, and the faster the battery drains. The headlamp will also be heavier as the battery is larger.

If you can answer these two questions, nothing will stand in the way of your next Night Session.
