First Aid Mountain Rescue Ortovox

Ortovox – First aid and rescue in the mountains

Ortovox, the mountain sports brand from Taufkirchen, Germany, has always stood for the protection of mountaineers: inside. The brand’s success story began with the introduction of the first avalanche transceiver that received and transmitted on two frequencies. A further development of the Ortovox protection concept is the SAFETY ACADEMY, which uses free tools to sensitize and train mountaineers.

The SAFETY ACADEMY offers first aid programs, courses, and instructions on how to help in emergency situations on the mountain. Because first aid in the mountains is close to the brand’s heart. How often do we check our equipment, such as ropes, harnesses and carabiners, for safety and functionality and replace them when necessary? Training and refresher courses in first aid, on the other hand, typically fall by the wayside. In the mountains, it can take longer for the mountain rescue team to reach the injured. So it makes sense to take responsibility for yourself and others and to be well-prepared when you go mountaineering. This makes it easier to keep a cool head and to help and care for the injured until the mountain rescue team arrives.

ORTOVOX SAFETY ACADEMY LAB ROCK: Tutorials for climbers

In the mountains, small mistakes or carelessness can quickly have serious consequences. A sound knowledge of first aid is therefore essential and can save lives. The aim of the Ortovox SAFETY ACADEMY LAB ROCK is to impart important knowledge about first aid in the mountains and to enable the participants to act correctly, quickly and deliberately in emergency situations. Video tutorials, learning tools and graphics are used to illustrate what immediate action can be taken in 30 emergency situations. These range from injuries to allergic shock, heart attacks and snake bites. The guide also gives mountaineers options for what to do if, for example, the scene of the accident is inaccessible, there is no network coverage or the weather is bad.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE: SAFETY ACADEMY FIRST AID GUIDE

Nothing can replace attending a first aid course, ideally one specifically designed for mountaineers: inside. As an additional tool, the Ortovox First Aid Guide provides the necessary basic knowledge in a clear and understandable way. On 64 pages, you will find everything you need to know about dealing with emergencies in the mountains.

ESSENTIAL: FIRST AID courses from the SAFETY ACADEMY

The best place to learn what to do in an emergency on the mountain is there: on the mountain. The Ortovox SAFETY ACADEMY first aid courses are aimed at all female mountaineers and are run by certified first aid trainers with many years of experience. The courses meet the requirements of the German Employers’ Liability Insurance Association and are recognized by it. Participants receive an official first aid certificate at the end of the course.

What should I look for in a first aid kit?

A first aid kit should be in every rucksack. Ideally, it should be tailored to the tour and the number of participants. Of course, it has to be space-saving, light, and easy to use. This is the only way to react quickly in an emergency. Descriptive pictures and labels in the set are an additional help in an emergency. This makes it easier to find your way in a crowd.

There are five different Ortovox first aid kits for different areas of use. The FIRST AID ROLL DOC set is suitable for multi-day trips and is also available in a midi and mini version for shorter trips. There are also waterproof sets in two sizes for multi-day and day trips.

The Ortovox emergency card: Important information at a glance

In an emergency, fast treatment of the injured can save lives. However, injured people are often unresponsive. In this case, it is helpful for the rescuers to get important information in another way. The Ortovox Emergency Card is integrated into many Ortovox mountain sports products and provides essential information such as height, weight, previous illnesses and allergies. The emergency card was developed together with the alpine scientist and expert Walter Würtl.

The following ORTOVOX products are equipped with the emergency card

Shelter for emergencies: the bivouac bag

It offers protection from the cold and wet in the event that the tour takes longer than planned, and you have to spend the night on the mountain. The bivouac bag is part of the basic equipment that every mountaineer should carry. It is available as a single or double pack, and some Ortovox bivouac bags can even be used to transport injured people. Learn more about the uses of bivy bags in the Ortovox SAFETY ACADEMY.
