The right outfit for winter running

The days are getting shorter and the weather cooler, the streets emptier and the world feels a little quieter. But all this should not be excuses not to slip into your running shoes and run in autumn and winter! Sure, it would be cozy on the couch with a nice cup of tea, but let’s face it, is there a better feeling than after an extensive run? With the right gear, running is possible even in winter and will help you stay fit or even improve your fitness. With the running gear from DYNAFIT you are well-prepared this year. Here we show you what equipment you need to be able to train safely and protected even in winter.

So that you don’t overexert yourself in the cold air and in the worst case get sick, it is important to keep a few things in mind, after all, running should release its positive effects and not put too much strain on you and your body. Winter is the ideal time to lay the foundation for your athletic goals in the warmer seasons. Now you have the opportunity to add variety to your workouts to avoid stagnation in your fitness level. So feel free to try something new, choose a more relaxed pace, move more in the profiled terrain and let your soul dangle during your winter long run.

The right apparel

Above all, the right clothing plays a major role in the cold season. You should deliberately choose the layer look and put on several layers on top of each other. After all, you should not freeze. Pay particular attention to clothing that allows moisture to pass through to the outside. Sweating too much will cause you to overheat quickly, even at low temperatures. It makes sense to start your look with a functional undershirt, which lies directly on the skin and transfers the moisture. Over this you should wear a functional, long-sleeved running shirt. Round off your look with a running jacket that protects you from the cold and wind. In addition, your head and your ears should be protected from the cold by wearing a thin cap or a headband.

The right footwear

It should be clear that in winter you need decent shoes that will protect you not only from the cold, but also from moisture. It is also important that the shoes have a good profile, so that you do not slip on wet ground or in the snow. Here you should resort to trail running shoes, as these shoes have a much better profile than conventional running shoes. They also give better grip due to their more robust workmanship and more stable sole. Running shoes with Gore-Tex coating make sense on cold and wet days, as the membrane makes your shoe waterproof and protects your feet from moisture. If you live in a snowy region, and also like to run off the cleared paths in the winter, Spikes or Grödeln are a good idea. Grödeln offer you a safe step even on snow and ice due to better traction. If you have the opportunity, come to us in one of our stores – we will be happy to advise you comprehensively and give you the opportunity to try different shoes and test them!

The right equipment

Winter running is not only about the right clothing and shoes, the equipment should also be well thought out. In very wintry temperatures you should not do without thin gloves. Longer socks over the ankle or over the entire calf are recommended to warm up the muscles more quickly and to protect them from the cold. This way the cold can’t harm you. Make sure you drink enough fluids in winter, too, because your thirst is less pronounced in cold weather than in summer. In contrast to summer temperatures, the body does not have to cool as much and you sweat less as a result, but you still lose fluid, even if you don’t feel it immediately. Among other things, the air is drier in winter, so the air you breathe needs to be more humidified to match your body temperature. Ideally, you should have a running vest with you on your longer runs in winter, in which you can stow a sports drink & energy bar, as well as a change of clothes and a small first aid kit for running tours in the mountains. You should also keep in mind that it gets dark faster in the evening. So that you still keep the view, it would be advisable to have a headlamp with you. You can either put it directly on your head or stow it in your running vest for safety. This way you have it on hand for emergencies.

Motivation

You find it difficult to motivate yourself to go out and lace up your running shoes in the dark season, after work in the cold and dark? You are not alone!
