TRIGGER 3D – The evolution of an innovation

You can especially see it more and more often in wintersports on slopes and trails. The hand no longer grabs the ski stick through a loop, but is held in the hand in a different way. But what exactly is that?
This system comes from the company LEKI and is called Trigger. This innovation, as it’s called, promises maximum safety combined with comfort.

The Trigger 3D was developed especially for alpine skiing and is the further development of the already existing Trigger S. But what does this patented safety solution look like?

LEKI – THE COMPANY BEHIND IT

In 1948, Karl Lenhart founded the LEKI Lenhart GmbH in Dettingen/Teck – Germany. At first with a completely different business model he developed and produced wooden letters from wood for lettering of bakeries and butcher shops. In the course of time he turend from personal dissatisfaction to the theme of ski poles. Lenhart himself was a passionate skier, but never really satisfied with the quality and functionality of ski poles at the time. With all his existing machinery he decided to swing around from his wooden letter production then to concentrate on the production of ski pole handles and plates. Already in the 1960s he managed to go into bigger production. Since he had experience in aircraft construction he had collected knowledge with raw materials such as aluminum an composite and their processing were not a foreign object. He began to produce ski poles from these materials and entered under the company name Leki 1970 the market. The company name Leki consists of the owner name and the company headquarters. From 1973 he expanded the production and from that time produced cross-country ski poles.
Now that you have become a closer look on the company LEKI it follows the presentation of Trigger 3D.

the trigger 3D – the evolution of an innovation

Making something really good even better is one of the biggest challenges for product developers. With the Trigger 3D, the pole specialists from Kirchheim have succeeded in raising the sophisticated and patented Trigger System to a new level of performance.
2,200 hours of prototype construction, 10,000 test releases and endless athlete tests in the snow are contained in the Trigger 3D. It was worth it. The Trigger 3D convinces with:

  •  more control through direct connection between glove and stick
  •  improved ease of use due to quick click-in and click-out
  •  greater safety reserve through intelligent 3D triggering

Safety plays a decisive role in skiing – in racing as well as for everyone who likes to ski. With the Trigger 3D LEKI succeeds in this context a quantum leap.
The Trigger 3D inspires with an innovative, three-dimensional release. The release spectrum of the current Trigger S system, which still holds an outstanding position in the ski pole sector, has been expanded 4-fold.
A lot of attention to detail has gone into the ergonomic design of the grip area, which is crucial for controlled pole use, good grip and easy handling of the pole. With the Trigger 3D, the product developers succeeded in further improving the contour of the grip contact surfaces and further optimizing the grip ergonomics. Due to the improved designed area of the grip head, the gain in ease of use when connecting and disconnecting the Trigger system is immediately noticeable.

Additionally Leki has developed gloves in which the system is already integrated. LEKI has directly integrated the “Trigger Loop” into the glove collection, which is adapted to the system. The complete loop has been integrated into the glove so that only a small ring-shaped opening made of very flexible and extremely tear-resistant material is visible on the palm of the glove. The Powerframe is precisely machted to each size, supports stability and ensures an ideal distribution of force over the entire glove. The collection covers the full range and includes models for racing and comfort skiers, gloves and mittens in women’s, men’s and children’s versions. Very important for all who already trust in the Trigger S System from LEKI: The patented Trigger System itself remains compatible with the currently Trigger technology. This means that the new Trigger 3D poles can be used with all previous Trigger S gloves and loops.  Once again, this shows that LEKI keeps its customers’ wishes and needs in mind when it comes to new developments, and that innovations are also always linked to sustainability aspects.

There is also a Trigger solution for the Nordic sports. This is called Trigger S 2.0 Shark. But the system is the same. With the Trigger S 2.0 Shark the loop is fixed and released in seconds. Maximum power transmission is guaranteed.

The technology behind it

Safety has the highest priority at LEKI. For this reason, the company has developed the Trigger safety system, the first safety binding in a ski pole. Trigger 3D, just like its predecessor Trigger S, stand for the simplest and fastest handling in combination with a complex safety system in the pole. The best combination of safety and comfort is achieved by using the Trigger 3D pole and the matching glove. In short, Trigger 3D offers perfect comfort, maximum safety and best power transmission.
