RE-SOURCE BY SCOTT – Start the winter season responsibly

More and more manufacturers are aware of their responsibility towards people and the environment: products are becoming increasingly more sustainable, processes more environmentally friendly and special initiatives protect and support the people involved in the value chain. The latter is usually defined in a code of conduct by the respective company or by associations, such as the Responsible Sport Initiative (RSI), and ensured by third-party verification.

At the product level, a lot has happened in recent years, especially in the clothing sector. But there are also more and more innovative products that are produced in a more environmentally friendly way, both in terms of “hardware” such as skis and snowboards, and accessories such as helmets and goggles.

With RE-SOURCE BY SCOTT, sports and outdoor specialist SCOTT has launched a program with which the brand is committed to developing and promoting corporate responsibility. In this article you can find out what the sustainability and responsibility strategy includes and which products from the current season have been manufactured in a particularly environmentally friendly manner.

SUSTAINABILITY AT SCOTT: RE-SOURCE

The RE-SOURCE BY SCOTT program rests on three pillars: People, Planet and Product.

Re-Source: People

SCOTT is committed to a fair value chain in which all people involved are treated with dignity and respect. This starts with the employees of the company, continues with the promotion of economically disadvantaged athletes and sports associations, scholarships, sponsorships, donations, youth work to fair e-commerce programs, action against child labor and discrimination and much more.

Re-Source: Planet

Starting with the office buildings, which are built as environmentally and climate-friendly as possible and the avoidance of pollutants in production, SCOTT goes all the way to offsetting the CO2 emissions of its athletes. The company takes part in numerous environmental protection campaigns and actions. The brand is also a member of the European Outdoor Group (EOG) and has signed its sustainability charter.

Re-Source: Product

Scott’s goal is to improve and increase the sustainability of its products. For this purpose, there is the Re-Source logo, so that customers can quickly recognize which articles have been produced sustainably. Re-Source is thus a sustainability program and label in one.

SCOTT has set itself the goal of improving the sustainability of the products without sacrificing quality and performance. With the help of the Re-Source logo, customers can quickly see which items have been produced sustainably. Re-Source is thus a sustainability program and label in one.

For the fall/winter season 2021/22, SCOTT has defined sustainability criteria for clothing for the first time: According to this, a product must either consist of at least 50 percent recycled or 100 percent certified renewable materials. In addition, the brand has completely dispensed with PFC-based Durable Water Repellence (DWR) impregnation. SCOTT also relies on recycled polyester, organic cotton, animal welfare, increased use of natural materials and reduction of plastic in packaging.

In order to become more sustainable in the hardware sector, the company has defined the following criteria:

    • Hardware products are made by using recycled, bio-based and/or renewable materials.
    • Materials are certified by third parties.
    • The materials must account for at least 50 percent of the weight.

SCOTT: FROM SKI POLES TO MULTISPORT

In 1958, Ed Scott, a talented engineer and ski racer from Sun Valley, Idaho (USA), came up with the idea of making a ski pole out of aliminium. The lightweight material quickly replaced the old poles made of bamboo and steel.

Later, Scott got involved in motorsports, eventually adding bikes and bike equipment, skis and ski gear, clothing, running shoes. Today, Scott is an internationally renowned brand in the sports and outdoor sector.
