Flow Valley Crew – Berny Stoll

Berny is one of the two founders who brought the Flow Valley crew into life in 2013. He started to rip the trails in the 90’s on the K2 hardtail of his father.  In 2012 he was on a search after new trails, far away from the hiking hot-spots, when he came up with the name Flow Valley, which he always called the places that he didn’t want to share the exact locations of –  “keep it secret – keep it safe!” One year later brought Berny and Robert aka the “Oidwirt” the first ideas to life, to start the crew. Two Flow Valley events came up out of this, the Arrabiata Battle and the Tapas Trail Ride in 2013 – two truly unusual spirit events!

Q&A with Berny Stoll

Who are your supporting  sponsors?

Sport Conrad, Ion, Alpina, EVOC and Xenofit

What does it mean to be a part of the Flow Valley for you?

Sauguad“, it’s just awesome to be with the dudes in the mountains and even when we are not always all together, we are a team

So Berny, how does it look with you and competitions?

I used to ride races a lot, but now it’s not so much anymore. Just here and there.

Why, what drove you?

In the first years, I was competing in marathon races and than went to some enduro races. But to be honest, what I like about biking the most, are the breathtaking mountain views and the joy of riding a bike. But I  started again with racing just 2 weeks ago, I went for the German Series Enduro Race and I won in the category “not licensed riders” 😉

That’s not too shabby! So tell us, you have been around a lot, what is your favorite and most impressive trip so far?

That was definitely South America,  Peru. First I went there because of snowboarding. The locals took me to shred the highest peaks around Huaraz. It was truly an impressive location.

Which countries did you explore on your bike?

Pretty much everything around the Alps! But I have been with my bike in the Pyrenees and on the Canary Islands. But I know many trails in the Alps, since I was guiding trans alpine tours for 10 years.

What is the most beautiful tour you have been on so far?

On La Palma – from Roque de los Muchachos through the jungle all the way down to the ocean.

Flowtrail or technical?
Both!  Mountain biking has so many forms, the most important thing is to know how to make the perfect mix.

Do you prefer to go up or down on your bike?

You can always go downhill, but you just can’t do it without the uphill 🙂

What’s your favorite tour?

The one with the proper Kaspressknödel (cheese dumpling)  Zillertaler art 😉
