Regardless of whether you dream of going cross country skiing,ski touring, or are you looking for some snow-fun with your hole family: all of this, and more, is possible in the Alpenwelt Karwendel, Bavaria.
At an altitude of 1.000 meters you can find 150 km-worth of different trails, such as the “Canada-Trail” along the Isar River. Alternatively, if you crave a quiet, cosy winter walk, then hiking in Karwendel may be just what your soul needs: chose, for example, between a walk through the forest along the Isar River, or a stunning panorama view from the Karwendel cable car station.
Or how about a romantic sleigh ride through the snow? Experience it, while exploring the beautiful and charming villages Mittenwald, Krün and Wallgau.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes…
you will find the family-friendly ski area at Kranzberg in Mittenwald: the region’s best-kept secret and fun for the whole family – whether it’s sledging or skiing that you’re after. The small Barmseelift is where the little ones can begin their “skiing careers”, with or without professional trainers.
And, the number one destination for any freerider is of course the Dammkar – at 7km, the longest deep-snow off-piste ski route in all of Germany.
Environment and nature…
…are key to the Alpenwelt Karwendel, which is why the region has invested in a seamless system of bus and train connections; the train stops in Krün/Klais and Mittenwald are serviced every hour, and you can comfortably reach Mittenwald via Flixbus. If you do decide to arrive by the car, you may still use the Guest Card and travel to all the hot spots within the region for free, using its local bus services. Another fantastic benefit of this region is the convenient location of most hotels and guest houses that allow you to reach the winter sports destinations on foot.
Local producers…
… play a key role in the production and distribution of local and regional products. Their products are labelled “Naturgastgeber” or “Viabono”; for example, guests are able to spend the night wrapped up in cosy, handmade sheep’s wool blankets, produced from wool made directly in the Karwendel region. Local farmers supply restaurants and hotels with bread, meat, cheese and honey from their own farms and shops, and both restaurants and farmers rely on regional products, and promote Bavarian agriculture.
