Wir Denken Um Day 2022

Not even heavy rain and hail can stop us when we set out on our Team Day. The only thing that counts is to roll up your sleeves – or put on a rain jacket – and get going. Why? Because WIR DENKEN UM and sustainability is not just an empty phrase, but we want to be committed to our nature and our region. And besides, we really learned a lot about our local flora and fauna during our outreach. Together with the foresters Toni, Dominik and Fritz from the Privatwaldgemeinschaft Oberammergau and Stefan, the Shepherd of the Soila Alm, we were in action at the end of May at one of our local mountains – the Laber in Oberammergau.

2 groups. 55 employees and 15 kids. 500 trees

Our first group started already in the morning. With the nostalgic Laberbergbahn we went up to 1.684 hm! On the hike down, with a stop at the Soila Alm, there was much worth knowing about the private forest community Oberammergau, the forestry operation and the forests, which have already been managed for the common good for over 100 years, hunting and alpine farming. The term “sustainability” originates from forestry and means that only as much wood may be felled as will grow back in order to be able to maintain the stock in its entirety. At noon, the second group finally caught up. Together we tackled and planted a proud 500 new seedlings, not even pouring rain and hail could stop us – A great result! May all the beech, spruce, fir and larch trees grow well and once again form a magnificent, robust – and climate-resistant – forest. And one thing must not be missing, of course: A real refreshment after work – namely fresh pizza from the mobile pizza oven.

Regional projects & up-close experiences in the local nature

Since our first WIR DENKEN UM day in 2019, we’ve already accomplished a lot: we’ve participated in the clearing of the Premer Filz, organized various Ramadamas and cleared nature of trash, dismantled a deer fence in truly alpine terrain and cleared a very overgrown green area at the Ettal monastery of rotten wood and brush – and this year, reforested a forest damaged by a storm. Each year our group of volunteers has grown, and each year even more Sport Conrad colleagues and their family members roll up their sleeves and get packing. And yes – sometimes it’s important to cut down trees to clear bogs, and sometimes it’s important to plant trees. All of this is climate protection and education: because we learn a lot about the environment on our doorstep and at the same time help protect our natural world. For us, that means WIR DENKEN UM. #wearesportconrad
