Pro and cons of E-Bikes

When strolling in the city or being in the mountains on weekends, more and more cyclists with e-bikes cross your way. For many passionate bikers, that’s an absolute no-go and only an option for wimps and seniors. But is this negative attitude really justified? Absolutely not! In this post, we will show you the advantages of e-bikes and also talk about some of the actual disadvantages.

All Benefits of E-bikes at a glance

A closer look quickly shows: An e-bike has more advantages than you might have thought in the first place.

Less effort

Less effort might sound unsporting first, but that is not the case at all. If you go mountain biking with an E-bike it does not mean that you do not need to put in some effort and start sweating after some time. However, you can master steep sections where you would otherwise have to get off and walk your bike. This does not only allow you to cover longer distances but also saves some of your strength for the descent. With the adjustable engine power, you can even decide how much support you need when.

At the same time, however, you should not forget that you have to get down the steep passages you went up before. Always keep an eye on your personal limits, even if it might initially seem easy and feasible with motorized support.

For training purposes

The e-bike can also be used perfectly for specific training. For example, if you want to keep your heart rate steady, but still cover distances with steeper sections, you can control it well with the motorized support.

Reduced physical stress

Riding an e-bike is gentle on your body – especially joints, knees and thighs are exposed to less stress than on a normal bike. Apart from the fact that this is, of course, beneficial for everyone, the e-bike is therefore also a good choice for seniors or after having some injury. Bike tours in nature or riding through the city are thus possible for everyone.

Environmentally friendly means of transport

An e-bike is not only ideal for doing sports, but also for the daily ride to work, friends or shopping. With the motorized support, you are much faster and also arrive more relaxed without sweating. This makes an e-bike an eco-friendly alternative to using a car and also offers a way to avoid busy subways and buses.

Things you should consider as well

In addition to the many advantages, e-bikes, of course, also have a few disadvantages you should consider before buying.

High costs

Good e-bikes are expensive. For the money, however, you get a great bike that can be used in many ways and supports you reliably. You have to decide for yourself, whether it is worth the price.

High weight

Compared to normal bikes, e-bikes are quite heavy – on average they weigh over 20 kg. Carrying the bike over a few steps can thus quickly get quite exhausting. If the battery is empty, the riding itself requires more effort as well.

Charging time and range

To make sure that the pedal assistance does not unintentionally stop, the battery of the e-bike needs to be charged regularly. Basically, this is not a particularly difficult task, but you need to remember doing it early enough. Once empty, the battery takes at least one up to four hours to fully recharge again. Therefore, always keep an eye on the range of your e-bike. However, depending on the kind of battery, the range goes up to over 140 km, so usually, this should not be a real problem.
