Literature Meets Mountains between Wetterstein and Bodensee (Germany)

Charly Wehrle – what a famous name in and around Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In his books, he tells (only in German) vivid stories about his experiences in the climbing paradise Oberreintal and about the Reintalangerhütte. Cozy get-togethers with the one and only Charly Wehrle with readings from his books, combined with extensive snowshoe hikes in the beautiful Nannenbach in the Western Allgäu, a region of Bavaria, is planned. You can directly stay at Wehrles family’s place, where he converted a traditional farmhouse into a gallery. If you are into a homelike winter holiday, with nice evenings and a great time out there with a legend like Charly, you are probably more than happy this a-typical plan.

Key facts:

  • extended snowshoe hikes
  • easy difficult tour (for beginners)
  • meet the legend Charly Wehrle
  • Lection from Wehrles books
  • in German language

What you need for your New Year’s Outdoor Adventure

To celebrate the turn of the year in the mountains is a real gift. If you don’t have the opportunity to get away far due to job-related obligations, you can plan a tour in your region. Snowshoe hikes, ski tours or splitboard tours are super nice, especially in this special night. Also tobogganing with the kids can be really fun. You are absolutely into celebrating the start of the new year outdoors, while completely neglecting crowded and smoky parties? What are you waiting for, let’s get out there!

No matter if you celebrate in the mountains, at home or if you are on a short vacation somewhere else. You won`t need a lot to get the celebration started. Actually, you only need your backpack. So you can stay a little longer in the cold on New Year’s Eve, we have thought of something really nice for you and your friends and family. While waiting for midnight you need something to keep you warm. The only things that you need to pack in your backpack is a camping stove, a compatible pot, Gin, some special ingredients and several mugs. If all of your friends carry something, it will be more fun. Et voilà – you’ll see: it`s that easy to prepare mulled gin or a hot apple punch. Sounds like a fun night in the mountains.

All you need for your New Year’s Eve Mulled Gin:

  • Gin
  • Orange zest
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cloves
  • Apple juice

The preparation is super easy: you take the already at home minced pieces of ginger, orange zest, cinnamon sticks, and cloves and heat them with the apple juice in the pot. After 20 minutes (more or less) the apple punch is ready. Make sure it is not cooking. Now you have the alcohol-free version. To make it a mulled gin, you just need to put some gin in your mug together with the apple punch and there you go – you’re ready to drink mulled gin. It’s simply delicious.

Get the gear. Get your friends. Get out there. Below you can find the equipment you need on your tour to cook the apple punch:
