Mobility raffle by Sport Conrad

Commuting is a real climate killer! In the pre-Corona era, there were 13 million regular commuters in Germany alone – with an average of 34 kilometers of round-trip travel. That adds up to just under 440 million kilometers. Daily. About once to the sun and back again. Of this, around 73.4 percent (322 million kilometers) are covered by “motorized individual transport,” mostly by car. This means that commuter traffic alone generates around 64,504 tons of CO2 emissions.

At Sport Conrad, the daily commute is also a factor. In our carbon footprint, commuting accounts for 14 percent (fiscal year 2019). 830,000 kilometers by car. 28,000 kilometers by train.  3,000 kilometers by bus. And happily: over 700,000 kilometers on foot or by bicycle!

To motivate our employees to leave their cars behind, we run a mobility lottery during the summer months. From April to October, the motto is: walk, bike, take the train or carpool more! Those who give up their car at least five times a month have the chance to win valuable prizes.

Starting on April 1

Even though most of our colleagues live in nearby regions around our locations in Penzberg, Garmisch, Murnau, Wielenbach and Iffeldorf, many choose to drive for their daily commute. Admittedly, the car cannot always be avoided, especially if you live in the countryside. Nevertheless, we as a company would like to motivate our colleagues to get to work in an environmentally friendly way, either the whole way or a part of it. That’s why we have chosen April 1st as the date for our mobility lottery again in 2023. Until October 31st, 2023, all colleagues have the choice of traveling by car or environmentally friendly by bike, on foot or by public transport.

Monthly in the lottery pot

Our mobility lottery is all about leaving your car at home as often as possible and working together to avoid as many emissions as possible from commuting. In our monthly lottery, the three categories of bicyclist, pedestrian and public transport are scored, provided that participants use these alternatives at least five times a month. There are prizes in kind or campaign vouchers to be won – in any case individually tailored to the respective winner.

Beat last year

Our goal is to commute as environmentally friendly as possible and of course that every year more colleagues join in and we increase every year. Our most diligent colleague pedals a one-way distance of over 50 kilometers several times a week, and in almost any weather. In 2019, a total of 4444 kilometers were covered by bike, 160 kilometers on foot and almost 4,500 kilometers by public transport on the way to work. In 2020 – we must admit- we didn’t take it very seriously with the documentation and “only” raffled off monthly. In 2021, we again took precise notes: a total of 12,000 kilometers were covered on foot, by bike or by public transport. Plus our first carpool: three colleagues who commute 60 kilometers a day. In 2022, there was a real jump in participation – or in the accuracy of the monthly documentation: a total of about 40,000 kilometers cycled, walked, and car-pooled or commuted by public transportation.

Job bike – LEASE instead of buy

By the way, our employees have the option to lease a bike of their choice. After three years, the bike can be purchased at a lower price or simply returned. This is how we support and motivate our team to leave the car at home more often and ride the new bike to work. Customers whose employers offer bike leasing through JobRad or mein-dienstrad.de can also lease their dream bike at Sport Conrad. → All information about bike leasing through Sport Conrad.
