Gear-Review: In the Mountains with Dynafits Hoji Touring Boot

This touring ski boot is a revolution. For a long time, exceptional pro-freeride skier Eric “Hoji” Hjorleifson and low-tech inventor Fritz Barthel worked hard to make the Dynafit Hoji touring ski boot what it is today. Our athlete Robert Grasegger tested what the boot really can do on the Weisseespitze in Kaunertal/Austria.

Dynafit Hoji – The Allrounder

The Hoji Touring Boot is the all-rounder in the touring boot scene. A touring boot where you do not have to give up downhill performance or climb ability.

Since the test phase was a little short, I picked out a season start tour that offers something from everything so I could test the Hoji in detail. The weather was quite bad and, let’s say, the circumstances vary, which was kind of perfect, so I really could see what this boot can do.

Dynafit Hoji – first contact

Already at the parking lot I made the first pleasing discovery: the touring ski boot is super easy to put on. With the Hoji Lock system, you are ready to start surprisingly fast. And not only that: you can also change very quickly and easily from the walking position to the ski position. Very cool due to the conditions that we found during testing because I had to change quite often.

The Hoji Lock System

Now I’ll take a closer look at the Hoji Lock system. Instead of going up with open buckles as usual and closing buckle by buckle at the summit, it is possible to just move the lever from ascent to downhill and start skiing. So I do not have to adjust the lever for the descent and the downhill and close all the buckles to get a better power transfer downhill.

THE Ascent WITH THE TOURing WEAPON

With 1450 grams, 55 degrees shaft rotation and the V-shape tongue, the Dynafit Hoji offers maximum freedom of movement, flexibility and comfort on any terrain. The reduced point of the SPEED NOSE has also been used to optimize the point of rotation. The entry into the Pinnbindungen makes it even easier.

Thus, the Hoji is an absolute ski touring weapon, whether in steep upswings, short mixed-climbing passages or just while a leisurely ascent. This boot leaves nothing to be desired. So you do not have to ask yourself when you go wall-climbing, whether you take the light shoe and thus renounced downhill performance, or whether you opt for the heavy boat, which provides the desired downhill performance, but which is swirling on the sweat on your forehead on the ascent.

Absolutely perfect for the descent

Due to a 120 flex forward and the 11 degrees forward inclination the figures alone speak for the Dynafit Hoji. This means that the ski is absolutely downhill capable, the weight transfer to the ski with every turn is almost perfect. The Hoji also blocks in a position of 11 degrees for enjoyable turns. Remarkable for a ski touring boot with low weight. Add to that the big revolution: switching from ascent mode to descent mode with just one lever.
