Dynafit TLT and it’s history

EARNED. NOT GIVEN. This leitmotif has probably crossed most winter sports enthusiasts and especially ski tour enthusiasts on their way. This leitmotif is represented by the brand Dynafit, which is very well known in ski touring. But what distinguishes, according to Dynafit’s idea, an excellent ski touring boot? Easy handling, mobility when going uphill, reliability when driving off. That certainly plays a big role. The company believes that the decades of experience provide an advantage that Dynafit’s product engineers and athletes put into their products!

The history behind the tlt series

As the name suggests the TLT8 shoe is a long tradition of lightweight ski touring shoes for speed touring that goes back to the 1980s.

The first picture below shows the origin of the TLT series. The TLT series was launched in colorful and eye-catching colors. The picture below gives a glimpse of the Pierra Menta 1991. One of the largest and most famous ski touring races in the Alps. As you can see all riders have two things in common they compete in the Pierra Menta and almost everyone races in a Dynafit TLT1 ski touring boot. Thus, the TLT1 from the ski touring shoe series has already achieved cult status.

Over the years the TLT shoe changed visually aswell as technically steadily. The engineers and product managers endeavor to optimize everything for each successive generation, once again at the former point of view, in order to be able to offer the best to the ski touring enthusiast.

Here are a few inspirations and another overview of the TLT series from Dynafit.

As a current model of the successful TLT series of Dynafit is the TLT8 thus replaces the TLT7 from last season. The TLT8 has changed significantly compared to its predecessor. The cable system has been replaced and Dynafit relies on two buckles with a one-hand operation when switching from walking to running down. So that comes once the Carbonio variant with less than a kilo and the TLT8 Expedition for the classic tourer.

The insigths from 30 winters of excellent engineering and thorough testing in virtually all the snow-covered corners of the world comes within the new TLT. The result of it is the brandnew TLT8 expedition. Product manager at Dynafit, Adriano Rossato, describes the shoe as follows: “The shoe is designed and made for athletic ski mountaineers who want to climb the highest mountains on earth in record time!”

The new Dynafit TLT8 Expedition, at 1,020 grams is a true lightweight among two-buckle ski touring boots.
To incorporate more speed, plus comfort and safety on the climb, the designers have paid particular attention to the new closure system Ultra Lock 4.0. Its operation is simple and intuitive, and thus saves time when transitioning from climbing to descending.
The upper buckle has two functions: It operates as a lever for the ski-walk mechanism and also opens the cuff. Just like the second buckle below it, it is micro-adjustable, and therefore the fit can be customised perfectly to the foot of every ski touring enthusiast. The system is also easy to operate with gloves, and wins points for its reliability and solid workmanship with no weight penalty – for speed, no compromises.

Thanks to a cuff rotation of 60 degrees, this boot enables a natural, energy-saving walking gait even on very steep terrain. A shortened toe – the so-called Speed Nose – translates into a reduction in weight of 15 percent, as well as a 12 percent more efficient roll-through by the foot with its pivot point set back by 4 mm.
On the descent, the ski touring boot can be locked into a forward lean of 15 or 18 degrees. This offers a dynamic position for speedy downhills. For optimum power transfer, the fit of the TLT8 Expedition has been redesigned so the boot offers a narrow, athletic fit with a last width of 103 mm.

A special feature of the TLT8 Expedition is revealed on icy, level sections or traverses on especially steep terrain when out of the binding: This ski touring boot is ideally suited for use with the new, ultralight SALEWA Cramp-In crampons.
