How to store ski touring skins in summer?
Top tips to ensure they are fit for next winter.
Winter may be over, but the ski touring season is far from over! The right way to store your skins over the summer will ensure they are in top condition for the next season. This will save you hassle, money and get you ready for the next snow season when it starts!

Before storing
- Clean your skins thoroughly: remove dirt, dust and textile fibres with a mild detergent, tweezers and lukewarm water. Take care not to damage the adhesive surface.
ATTENTION - to protect the fibres, always clean in the direction of the line :)
- Dry your skins completely: Make sure your skins are completely dry before storing. Damp skins can get mouldy and stain.
- Wax what you can: Rub or spray the pile (whether mohair or mixed mohair) with wax. The aim is to saturate the hair well. This will not only prolong its life, but also make it tougher and more slippery.
- Check your coat thoroughly: If you notice any major blemishes (holes, tears, etc.) on your coat, take advantage of the summer months and bring your coat in. Your skins can usually be repaired or replaced.

off to summer sleep
- no more gluing: Separate the glued surfaces and place a sheet (plastic grid) between them. This will prevent the glue from drying out.
- Bag it: Use a breathable cotton or nylon storage bag to protect against dust and dirt.
- Your skin likes it cool and dark: it is best to choose a place away from the light - ideally at 10-20°C (avoid heating rooms).
By following these simple tips, you can ensure that your touring skins are optimally stored during the summer and are in top condition for the next season.
