!PLEASE NOTE! If you order test skis including bindings, please enter your sole length in the comment field in the checkout when ordering. This allows us to check BEFORE delivery whether the ski boots/sole length are also suitable for the binding.
---
The Black Diamond Helio Carbon 104 is a classic freetourer that is also suitable for long ascents thanks to its particularly light construction. On the descent you can expect great float paired with precise riding characteristics.
Balancing playful, softsnow performance with a lightweight build and technical precision for when conditions are variable, the Helio 104 features a pre-preg carbon fiber layup with full-perimeter ABS sidewalls for improved dampness and a smooth ride, while the engineered paulownia wood core keeps it lightweight for big vert days in the backcountry.
The Black Diamond Helio 104 also maintains a smooth flex and torsional stiffness for reliable, responsive skiing on the way down. Early rise in the tip and tail improves flotation and trail-breaking efficiency, and an ABS tail protector also has an integrated skin-clip tab to keep your skins from sliding off.
Features:
• Versatile 104-mm waist with early rise tip and tail
• Pre-preg carbon fiber layup offers improved dampness, torsional
stiffness and balanced flex
• Engineered paulownia wood core
• Full-perimeter 5 mm beveled ABS sidewalls
• ABS tail protector with integrated skin-clip tab
• Titanal binding mounting plate
• Optimal use: 70 % soft snow, 30 % hard snow
• Handmade in Austria

Technology
LIGHTWEIGHT PERFORMANCE CARBON (HELIO CARBON)
A blend of High-strength carbon fiber oriented along multiple axes combined with strategic amounts of high-strength E-Glass for toughness and damping, this layup is optimized for efficiency without giving up downhill performance. Toughened epoxy resin is added in precise quantities prior to ski manufacturing to ensure precise weight and consistent quality. This layup is ideal for any backcountry mission.
ENGINEERED PAULOWNIA WOOD CORE
Paulownia wood is the material of choice when light weight is required, but compromising downhill performance is not an option. The stiffness and weight properties of paulownia wood make it the go-to material when using carbon fiber layups. Its slightly softer longitudinal stiffness allows for the use of stiffer carbon composites without compromising the flex profile of the ski. It has good compressive and shear properties, which allow for remarkably smooth and chatter-free ski performance at very low weight.
TITANAL MOUNTING PLATE
A high-strength metal plate is embedded underneath the composite layer to ensure that binding screw retention is never a concern. This plate also serves to increase torsional stiffness and provides a solid foundation underfoot.
INTERNAL CORE DAMPENING
Elastomeric materials are strategically located within the ski to improve damping and edge control. These layers serve both to absorb high-frequency vibration and also to allow some shear between internal layers, improving both performance and durability.
PTEX 4500 BASE
Industry-accepted as the premium base material, this sintered UHMW-PE base provides very high density for excellent durability and wax retention, combined with high carbon content for superior glide.
SEMI-CAP ABS SIDEWALLS
ABS sidewalls are located only in the underfoot zone most prone to impacts and where they can provide the most damping effect. Used on skis that require more durability and better ski performance than full-cap construction, but where low weight is top priority.
+ Fritschi Tecton 13 bindings
Carbon reinforced front and rear jaws make the Fritschi Tecton even more stable and durable. The proven Tecton freeride binding achieves the performance and safety of alpine bindings.
The Fritschi Tecton 13 impresses the powder fan not only with the best downhill performance. On the steepest slopes, it gives a secure hold and only releases when it really has to. It is just as strong on the ascent. The light weight and easy operation make all powder slopes effortlessly accessible.
Free Touring beyond limits: The exceptional alpine heel with rail is responsible for the direct power transmission from boot to ski, similar to an Alpine binding. Any unwanted release is prevented by the long dynamic path. The binding reliably releases at the DIN setting.
In the back, where the forces are highest, the Tecton remains as stable and precise as an alpine bind-ing. The hold-down system with a non-turning alpine heel jaw and the rail transmits the power directly from the boot to the ski without any loss.
The easy step-in and the intuitive control provide security, especially in challenging terrain. The right mix of light high-tech synthetics and high-quality metal alloys provides superior stability at a low weight.
Features:
• Alpine heel clamp with rail
• Lateral release at the front with DIN value adjustment and 13 mm dynamic travel for the toe of the shoe
• Frontal release at the rear with 9 mm dynamic travel for the heel
• Reliable release with 10 mm length compensation for the bent ski
• Easy access
• Intuitive operation
• Incl. color clips
