The Birkenstock Madrid BFBC is a true classic. Launched half a century ago as a ‘gym sandal’, this minimalist single-strap design has long since become a fashionable staple. The upper is made from Birko-Flor, a skin-friendly and hard-wearing synthetic material with an elegant nubuck finish, making it virtually indistinguishable from genuine leather in both texture and colour.

Footbed
At the heart of all models is the original Birkenstock footbed. The design, thought through down to the smallest detail and modelled on the natural footprint of a foot in sand, helps ensure that feet can spend many hours in the shoes with as little strain as possible. This supports health and promotes well-being.

Deep heel cup
The particularly deep moulding in the heel area supports the foot’s tissues and keeps the heel bone stable in its natural position. As a result, the foot has almost as much support in a sandal as it does in a closed shoe.

Heel bar
Activates the calf muscles, stabilises the rearfoot and improves gait and coordination.

Inner and outer longitudinal arch supports
The arch supports, which run longitudinally to the lateral edges of the footbed, encircle the tarsal bones on the inside and outside. This provides the foot with the necessary stability when stepping.

Transverse arch support
The support, which runs transversely across the centre of the footbed, stabilises the metatarsal bones. In this way, the transverse arch support promotes a natural, straight and firm stance of the foot.

Toe grips
The front part of the footbed, in the toe area, features raised sections. Thanks to the toe grips, the toes remain relaxed and spread out in their natural position. Furthermore, the raised sections support the natural rolling motion of the toes.

Footbed edge
At the front, the footbed is raised particularly high. The high insole edge protects the toes during the rolling motion.
