To keep warm, the silver side of the blanket is wrapped around the body of a person. In ice and snow, the gold side of the blanket is easy to see and is also understood as a call for help. To protect against overheating, the rescue blanket can be stretched to protect against the sun. Silver to the sun gives 99 %, gold to the sun gives 97 % IR protection.
