Mures Montis, or simply: Marmot
Marmot´s story began with a down vest, a pullover, and a parka. These were the very first products which were crafted by Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley from Santa Cruz, California, in 1971. They came into being after a school project about glaciology, dubbed “marmot”, which took place on a glacier in Alaska. By the way, this was a club in which every member was the president at the same time. In order to be accepted, you had to mount a glacier. In 1974, the cornerstone for Marmot was laid in Grand Junction, when the first Marmot Mountain Works store came into existence. Along came the first down sleeping bag, PIKA, one of the warmest sleeping bags, which can resist icy temperatures of up to -40°C.

Only one year later, they received their first big order from Mike Hoover, the director of the movie “The Eiger Sanction” starring Clint Eastwood. Thus, 180 pieces of the Golden Mantle came into existence, a movie-suitable down parka. The next pivotal moment was a meeting with W.L. Gore, where the idea to create a sleeping bag, featuring protection from moisture, was born. Today, Marmot is one of the most established Gore-Tex® customers worldwide in the scope of outdoor equipment and clothing. Marmot will always give you a reason to enjoy nature – what really makes you crave to be outdoors is Marmot´s pursuit to always craft high-quality gear.
Technology and awareness for the environment
EnviroFree, a Marmot initiative, ensures that the clothing is partly manufactured from recycled materials and that chemical substances are reduced. Marmot crafts clothing for people who love to be in nature like mountaineers, climbers, and, of course, children as well. Marmot gets its inspiration from professionals like Stefan Glowacz, Robert Jasper, Sarah Kampf, and many more. Here, ideas for all outdoor sports are collected and implemented.
Marmot has developed different lines and differing technologies for outdoor sports. You always own some perfect equipment by relying on Marmot, like one of their warm sleeping bags or cozy down jackets. Whatever Marmot develops makes its home wherever there is nature. This is why Marmot is absolutely predestined to craft clothing apparel for climbing and bouldering.

Marmot supports and funds many projects, such as the mounting of the Hidden Peak (8.068m), including the descent on skis, by Luis Sitzinger from Füssen, Germany, in July 2018 in the Karakorum mountain range, Pakistan. In these events, the equipment is severely tested and, in the aftermath, gained ideas are implemented in order to improve the functionality of Marmot´s ski jackets and ski pants to such a degree that they are able to withstand any tough weather conditions.

The Californians do not only develop clothing for adults, but also for children. Youngsters are equipped with outdoor clothing, ski jackets, and ski pants as well. Accompanied by the same principle of crafting high-quality, functional, comfortable, and colorful gear.
Marmot´s products only have one thing on their minds: functionality!
Marmot´s MemBrain® is a brand-own membrane made of an excellent mixture, combining robustness and breathability, as well as impermeability and water-resistance. The two-layer mesh guarantees that you´ll stay dry in any weather and feel a high level of comfort. Furthermore, this material is low-noise, which means that it doesn´t rustle when you move.

Marmot´s product line Thermal R™, an insulation made of polyester, was developed for all kinds of demands. The long-lasting and resistant fiber gives you a maximum level of warmth during all outdoor activities and deflects moisture to the outside. An additional advantage surely is the compressibility and the low weight. Also, there is Thermal R™ Eco, a polyester made of 100% recycled materials, sharing the same characteristics of those of the older sister.
Marmot Featherless insulation was developed in cooperation with 3M™ Thinsulate™ and effortlessly competes with down gained from animals. It is as warm as downs, yet, it maintains its warmth even when wet. Volume, functionality, and stability are also maintained. Suited for all outdoor activities like climbing or snow shoe hiking.
