Arnau from the Flow Valley Crew tested the latest Patagonia collection for us. A bike outfit. Yes, you heard right. Patagonia has been making bike gear since this year, so read on to find out what these outfits can do.
It’s mid-April and the desire to finally ride a trail again is immeasurable. The biker’s heart beats 12 months a year. We, my dudes and I, wanted to do the first runs before the season. The weather is unusually cold for April. Many mountains are not yet snow-free, so the choice of trails is quite limited. Our decision fell on the snow-free Neureuth at Lake Tegernsee.
So let’s go!!! On Friday, we took the dudes on a short tour up to Neureuth to start the weekend. It was sunny that day, around 12 degrees, but it felt much colder. Just the right weather to test out the new Patagonia bike combo. I was equipped with a pair of Dirt Craft bike shorts, a Cap Cool Daily Graphic shirt and a Dirt Roamer jacket, all from Patagonia.
The path to Neureuth is very steep. It is important to wear comfortable shorts to have decent comfort on the bike. I wore the Dirt Craft Bike Shorts in Black from Patagonia that day. The integrated seat padding of the shorts is comfortable and fixed on the inside of the shorts with press studs. Patagonia has really thought things through here in the spirit of biking. Slipping of the padding in the pants is almost impossible and you can concentrate 100% on your bike and the trail.
The pants can be tightened by two straps on the sides, so if necessary you can adjust them to fit your hips. I personally wear a size 32 and did not have to adjust the straps. Knee pads can be worn without any problems, as the pants only reach up to the knee. In addition to the pockets, there is a zipped pocket on the left side, on the thigh, for e.g. a mobile phone. The material is 95% nylon and 5% elastane, which makes the trousers very light, comfortable and quiet.
My personal highlight is the Cap Cool Daily Graphic Shirt by Patagonia. The shirt convinced me with its lightness and comfort. The fabric is flowing and soft. The shirt dries in no time if you get sweaty. A small cord attached to the collar makes it easy to hang the shirt on a branch. Thanks Patagonia, cool feature. The colour is a real eye-catcher and is called Hawk Gold. You shine with the sun. The shirt is made from 50% recycled material #greenthumbprint. The built-in 50+ UVA filter ensures protection from sunburn even on sunny days.
The jacket is the Dirt Roamer Jacket in Crater Blue from Patagonia. The Crater Blue is the perfect colour contrast to the Hawk Gold and makes the Hawk Gold seem even cooler. The jacket has a slim fit and sits close to the body. It closes with a one-way zipper. Important to know, the collar goes very high and ensures protection against the cold. A buff is therefore no longer absolutely necessary.
The hood is not removable, but can be tightened with a drawstring and adjusted to fit the head. Also a nice feature, the ends of the sleeves are cut so that they cover half of the back of the hand. At the bottom, the sleeve is tightened by an elastic band. Patagonia has also thought about the green thumbprint here and has made the Dirt Roamer Jacket from 100% recycled nylon. The back of the Dirt Roamer Jacket is equipped with an elastic band and allows the jacket to fit directly to the body. The jacket has an inside pocket and an outside pocket at the back left.
Patagonia promises a super stretchy and super breathable jacket for ascents and descents and for constantly changing conditions. I can sign off on that 100%. Tested and found to be very good.

My conclusion on the Patagonia bike suit is that if you want comfort and lightness combined with functionality, this is the perfect choice.
